Ultrafiltration

Ultrafiltration

Ultrafiltration (UF) technology removes suspended or dissolved solids, which have different molecular weights and sizes, respectively, from water or other liquids. This process is easy to operate and without the use of chemical additives and with very low energy usage. Although ionics and solids with a low molecular weight can pass through the membrane, our ultrafiltration membrane removes particles of less than 0.001 micron, eliminates organic solids and reduces the SDI down to <3

Ultrafiltration (UF) – has gained steadily increasing importance for the treatment of surface water over the last years. UF systems are used in the following applications:

  1. Treatment of surface, ground and well water into drinking water and process water
  2. Treatment of waste water into “grey” or process water
  3. Pre-treatment for desalination plants

The prime advantage of ultrafiltration compared to conventional treatment processes is the reliable removal of microorganisms. Furthermore, this technology implies substantial savings on initial investment costs and ongoing operating costs for the reliable reduction of the SDI prior to any further treatment steps that may follow.

Benefits of Ultrafiltration Hollow Fiber Membranes (inside to outside permeate flow direction)

  • Affords controlled flow hydraulics
  • Tangential flow along the membrane surface limits membrane fouling
  • Open process flow channel which results in less fouling
  • Physical membrane barrier that provides consistent permeate quality
  • Membranes can be backflushed to remove solids from the membrane inside surface, thus extending the time between chemical
